Infertility & Miscarriage

The crisis of infertility may be one of the most difficult things you will have to face in your adult life. The emotional pain, the intense highs and lows month after month can be devastating. The desire to simply conceive a child; something you used to believe was a natural outcome of a loving relationship, can call into question your faith, even your purpose as a woman or man. It is such an intense personal struggle, where feelings of self-doubt, shame, disappointment, and jealousy can complicate your relationship with yourself, your spouse, your family and your friends. Infertility requires that you alter some of your most basic human functions and redefine many of the most significant dreams and expectations you had for your life. All of these feelings can be part of the invisible pain you deal with while you are expected to carry on with your life as usual.

If you have been fortunate enough to achieve pregnancy but lost the pregnancy in miscarriage, no matter the timing of the loss, you have experienced the loss of your baby. It was a baby you had great hopes dreams for and plans to build a life around. The loss can be heartbreaking. Few people know how to console you. Even those closest to you, while trying to relate and comfort you, may unintentionally say hurtful things. All of the thoughts and feelings you are having are normal, predictable, expected, and very difficult.

Each of us reacts to personal struggles in our unique way and therapy can provide a path to see your way through.
